Local vet brings awareness to all wounded warriors

PINELLAS PARK (FOX 13) - A local veteran held an event on his own “Alive Day” in hopes of building a space for wounded warriors and families.

Mike Delancey said Friday was the anniversary of when he was injured in combat.

“In the veteran community, you don’t want to look down on that day,” he said to FOX 13. “We call it the Alive Day to kind of signify rebirth.”

He decided to hold an “Alive Ride” for participants to enjoy an 11-mile bike ride throughout the city of Pinellas Park.

“Local law enforcement and city officials have been excellent with me since I started this thing up,” Delancey said, “And they’re going to be shutting the streets down and clear the way for us.”

Although it was free to ride during the event, supporters could donate to support a veteran rider. It was also an opportunity to share more information on the Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch.

Delancey’s hope is to develop a 10-acre site in Pinellas Park for wounded veterans and their families.

The awareness ride took place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Quaker Steak and Lube on 49th Street North.
