Missing 7-year-old Davenport boy found safe
DAVENPORT (FOX 13). - Haines City police say they have located a 7-year-old Davenport boy who was missing after his mother was found dead.
A Florida missing child alert was issued for Donovan Carruthers, who was located safe in California with Joseff Rhodes, 41, described as the boyfriend and possibly pimp of the little boy's mother.
Police say because of Rhodes' criminal background, including violent crime and human trafficking, they were concerned about the child's well-being.
After seeing social media reports, police say Rhodes contacted Haines City police himself and told them he was in California, where police say he has family ties.
Donovan was found safe and is at the Rialto Police Department until the Department of Children and Families can decide where the little boy will stay.
The boy's mother was found dead in a hotel room on June 17 in Orange County, Florida. A homicide investigation is underway.
Police believe the family was semi-homeless and lived hotel to hotel.
Rhodes is not facing any charges at this time.
