Odessa shooting champ looks toward Olympics
ODESSA, Fla. (FOX 13) - A Bay Area clay shooter is hitting the target when it comes to the sport of shotgun shooting.
The 22-year-old has already won two national shooting championships.
Now, Dania Vizzi is on the U.S.A. Shoot national team and she has hopes of going to the Olympics in 2020.
"I practice about three hours a day, five to six days a week, and then when it is time for a competition I will train a little bit in the morning and a little bit in the afternoon," Vizzi said.
Vizzi was a dancer throughout childhood, but she starting shooting with her dad seven years ago. From that point on, she was hooked.
"After I shot my first shot, I kind of fell in love with it," Vizzi said. "Dance was... about how tall you were, about what you looked like and everything, and when I came to shooting, it was like, no matter who you are, it's [only about] hit or miss the target."
Vizzi also teaches her sport to the next generation of sharp-shooters.
"I love teaching young women and young men to shoot," she said. "I think it's so great to get the youth involved. It's such a great sport."
