Clearwater crash: Crane truck driver ran red light before hitting skateboarder in crosswalk, officials say

A portion of Gulf to Bay Blvd. is closed after a vehicle struck a pedestrian.
CLEARWATER, Fla. - A 19-year-old on a skateboard died after being hit by the driver of a crane truck who ran a red light on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in Clearwater Friday.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. in the intersection of Gulf-to-Bay and U.S. 19, near Old Coachman Road.
The city of Clearwater said Isaiah E. Baker Castellano was skateboarding in a crosswalk and had a green pedestrian signal when he was hit.

The driver of the crane truck, 35-year-old Leoyans Lopez Diaz, reportedly ran the red light at Old Coachman Road and hit Castellano.
The city said the driver did not seem to be impaired and was cooperating with investigators.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area until about noon and the road has since been reopened.
