'Rave Pop' gears up for Sunset Music Festival
HOLMES BEACH (FOX 13) - Sunset Music Festival is this weekend. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the electronic dance music festival.
But there will be one man in the crowd who is known to stand out at these events.
Alan Grofe is known to may as Rave Pop. After he retired, he moved to Florida, but this 72-year-old’s final days aren’t being spent watching the golf channel and reading books.
On any given day, electronic dance music - or EDM - can be heard surging through the speakers in his Apollo Beach home.
He’s been going to EDM festivals before they were a thing back in the late 1990s.
This father of two and grandpa of five has been to countless festivals – where he’s become a fixture – and earning his nickname.
“Young people come up to me and they go, 'Oh my God, I want to be like you when I grow up,'” Grofe said. “Here I am, 72, I don’t know how long I have, but I’m going to enjoy every bit of that out.”
Grofe says he loves to dance at the festivals as a source of exercise.
