Remnants of Erika to bring rain, possible flooding
TAMPA (FOX 13) - The remnants of Tropical Storm Erika are expected to bring heavy rain and possible flooding to the Tampa Bay area over the next few days.
A flood watch has been issued for the region and will stay in effect until 8 p.m. Monday.
Erika fell apart over Cuba Saturday morning and was no longer considered a tropical storm. Despite the downgrade, residents are still preparing for severe weather.
In Tampa, officials said they distributed more than 15,000 sandbags to families over the weekend. Pasco and Pinellas Counties provided sandbags as well, and will continue to do so as the flood watch remains in place.
Gov. Rick Scott urged residents to prepare for heavy rain at a press conference Saturday in Naples.
"Three days of water, three days of food. Have your batteries; have your radio. Do all these things to get ready. We all love our families. Make sure each family member is safe," Scott said.
