Sarasota police badges go pink to raise breast cancer awareness

The badges of some Sarasota police officers have turned pink for the month of October.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, some officers have chosen to wear the pink badges. Chief Bernadette Dipino hopes it’s a reminder for women to make sure they’re keeping up with their check-ups.

“We want women to remember, ‘Hey, maybe I need to schedule my mammogram,’ or, ‘Hey, maybe I need to make a donation in order to help people realize and recognize that this is something that impacts families,’” she explained. “We do it here in our police department because we’ve had women in our agencies who are survivors.”

Officers purchased the badges with their own money, and will wear them until the end of October.
