Search underway after man run over by truck in Haines City

Deputies are looking for a hit-and-run suspect after the driver was caught on camera intentionally running over a pedestrian during an argument in Haines City.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened in the area of Brin Road and Cattle Trail Road on Saturday around 10:30 p.m.

Deputies said a large party had just ended on the Rancho Los Pinos private property when a verbal argument ensued among several people.

According to witnesses, the argument escalated and the driver of a black Ford F-150 intentionally struck two people.

Hugo Zarate Gonzalez, 34, was run over by the truck and severely injured, while 35-year-old Anselmo Salazar received minor injuries.

Gonzalez was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where investigators said he is stable, but in critical condition.

"The video capturing this incident is shocking and it's amazing no one died as a result of this intentional act," Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. "If you saw something that evening, please say something! Call Crime Stoppers and earn some cash. We hope Mr. Gonzalez will be able to recover quickly from his injuries."

Detectives said they are looking to identify the driver as well as several other people who were reportedly in the truck.

The suspect faces two counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
