Small plane makes emergency landing in Geneva

GENEVA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A small plane made an emergency landing in Central Florida on Thursday, and a rescue that followed was caught on camera.  

"Guys, clear the building, clear the building now! Clear the building! Get out!" you hear in the video provided by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

The Husky A-1B was on a business flight from Daytona Beach to Orlando when it was hit by an in flight emergency... a partial power loss.

"Everybody clear, clear, clear!"

It wasn't the smoothest of landings, but it could've been a whole lot worse.  

"I'm going to consider the miracle to be that fence being in the way, because there were many cars, the building was full of people," said Sgt. Celine Rios with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Incredibly, those people were first responders, as the Sheriff's Office was conducting drivers training.

Sgt. Rios explained, "The trainers can hear the engine start to fail. We could see the plane start to descend onto the track." 

They realize the plane is heading straight for them.  They scatter, then do what first responders do, which is to rush in to help the pilot.

Sgt. Rios said, "Thank goodness none of our deputies or the pilot was hurt."

The pilot walked away without a scratch. All of it after landing in what turned out to be the right place at the right time.

"Of course, we train for the unexpected. You never know what might happen. Thank goodness our trainers were prepared," said Sgt. Rios.

The pilot flies banners for an Orlando based company. The plane's owner, and the pilot's boss told Fox 35, the pilot was back at work up in the air Thursday.

In terms of what happened, the owner of the company told FOX 35 there was a loss of power, although they don't know what caused it. The owner said the engine was running when the plane landed.

A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration told FOX 35 that the agency is investigating the landing.
