Social media helps reunite couple with lost GoPro

If you've ever doubted the power of social media, doubt no more. It helped reunite a couple with a camera they thought was gone forever.

Jeffrey Heim was at Caspersen Beach in Venice over the weekend, collecting shark teeth, when he found a barnacle-crusted GoPro camera. On the card were photos of a couple on that same beach and video of their wedding.

He posted a couple of photos online in hopes of finding the owner.

"Found this in the ocean today, still works and this is the last picture taken on it from 4 years ago," Heim posted.

Heim's post was retweeted hundreds of times, including by GoPro, which said "Alright #GoProFamily, time to rack in some karma points! Retweet + let's reunite a lost #GoPro."

Soon, word got back to Jim and Angel Wilson in Gainesville. They were paddleboarding at the beach last October when the camera was lost at sea.

“It's murky water and deep. There was no way I was getting it back,” Angel remembers thinking.

On Wednesday, she was proved wrong. Heim and the Wilsons met up so the camera and its precious memories could be returned.

The Wilsons offered Heim some money for his trouble, but he turned it down.

“When you lose something like that you're not thinking about the price, you're thinking about the footage and memories that were on it,” Heim said.

He said he's lost a couple of GoPros himself, so he knows the feeling.
