Students shaken after robbery, harassment on UT campus
TAMPA (FOX 13) - University of Tampa officials are warning students about a man who's been harassing women.
Two incidents have been reported, so far, and the school wants to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings.
Each time, a quick an unexpected robbery left the victim stunned.
Delaney McCall says she never thought twice about walking across campus, until Tuesday.
“Out of nowhere I see this guy start walking sort of briskly towards me, like intently walking near me,” McCall told FOX 13 News.
Campus officials say the man can be seen on surveillance video, harassing women on campus.
“[He] grabbed my hand and started dragging me… So I kind of jerked my hand away and was like, ‘What just happened? That's not normal,’” McCall said. “I didn't want to be overdramatic at first, but then I was like, no this could happen to somebody else.”
UT officials say the man has been identified, but the concern is not gone.
Another alert was sent to students this week after two students were robbed at gunpoint on Cass Street at North Boulevard Sunday night.
UT spokesman Eric Cardenas said the school wants to be as transparent as possible, pointing out there are 700 cameras monitoring every corner of campus.
That’s how they were able to identify and locate the man who allegedly harassed McCall.
Tampa police are now handling that case and it’s unclear if he will face charges.
