A suspected gunman and one other person are dead after a standoff that forced a neighborhood-wide lockdown in Port Richey this afternoon.

The standoff began after a reported "active shooter" near State Road 52 and Meadow Drive. The sheriff's office warned neighboring residents and business to "keep your doors locked" while deputies searched for a suspect.

Meanwhile, deputies closed down part of State Road 52 near Meadow Drive and the Gulf Highlands Subdivision in Port Richey. Gulf Highlands Elementary School was also on lockdown as a precaution.

The SWAT team surrounded a home in the Gulf Highlands neighborhood after a witness reported someone had been shot and killed in the garage of a home on Constance Avenue. The witness told the sheriff's office that the shooter was also firing a gun toward the street.

The view of the home from SkyFOX showed a large armored vehicle at the front door and dozens of cruisers in the neighborhood.

Around 5 p.m., the SWAT team seemed to stand down. Neighbors told FOX 13's Catherine Hawley that they'd heard multiple shots fired. Moments later, the sheriff's office announced that the suspect was dead.

They later identified him as Brian Disario, 30, who "had a history of mental illness and collected guns," they said.

The sheriff's office identified Disario's victim as 56-year-old David James Armstrong.
