Suspected ATV, driver sought in fatal hit-and-run

After more than week, troopers continue to search for an ATV driver who fatally struck a pedestrian.

On October 13, the suspect vehicle, described as a large, possibly dark green ATV with a rack mounted on the rear of the vehicle, hit and killed 24-year-old Dina Towers of Homosassa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The ATV was traveling westbound on West Southern Street, west of South Fairlane Terrace in Lecanto, troopers said. Towers was walking eastbound in the westbound lane along West Southern Street when the right front of the ATV hit her, and fled the scene. Towers was airlifted to Ocala Regional Hospital where she later passed away from her injuries.

According to a media release, the ATV has been observed traveling during the night without any lights on.
