Tampa company can detect, track a drone to its user

It’s a bird. It’s a plane.

These days, it could also be a drone.

According to the FAA, there are one million drones registered in the U.S., but many more are not.

Drones have incredible potential for good or bad.

Firefighters can use them as an eye in the sky to determine what part of a building is on fire, so they can develop an entry strategy.

After fighting a wildfire, a drone can pinpoint hot spots so crews can knock them down and prevent the fire from re-igniting.

SWAT teams can use them to check out the inside of a building to figure out how to approach a hostage taker.

Recently, however, drones flying over Gatwick and Heathrow Airports in London caused chaos. Flights were delayed and travelers were frustrated.

Just this week, we saw how a drone can be militarized with deadly results. In Yemen, rebel forces exploded a drone over a military base. At least five people were killed, and twenty injured.

Tampa-based firm FLYMOTION sells and customizes drones.

They could also be considered a detective agency of the air. FLYMOTION has technology that can detect a drone up to 14 miles away and determine the location of the person controlling it.

FLYMOTION works with government agencies and more.

“Even a private corporation headquarters that might have sensitive matter on site,” Ryan English the CEO and a co-founder of the company, told FOX 13.

The upstart business is booming.

“At the end of the day, there are unfortunately people out there who have nefarious intent,” English said.
