The Tampa Police Department is investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old dead early Sunday morning.

Shots were fired around 1:30 a.m. on the 3700 block of N. 15th Street after an altercation broke out during a ‘pop-up’ party.

When police officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old woman shot. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

One neighbor told Fox 13, at one point during the night, almost 80 cars were parked in front of his house as teens attended the party. He said it wasn’t long before he heard the sounds of gunfire.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity nor revealed many details about what led up to the shooting.

However, many people have taken to social media to discuss the night’s events. Some hint that shots may have been fired following a disagreement over hair.

For those in the neighborhood the news is heartbreaking. They said that other than occasional parties, the streets are usually quiet.

“It’s been very, very safe, very nice. I’ve never seen anything so of course this is a shock, and it’s a shame, a real shame,” said Carl Schlender, a nearby neighbor.

Schlender, who just renovated a house down the street from the crime scene, said it seems unreal.

“I’ve seen what the effects of war do to our young men and women,” said Schlender. “But to actually see it on the streets here, it’s a shock. I grieve for the family, for the parents of the young girl.”

No suspect information has been released, but authorities are asking party-goers who may have information to come forward.

The investigation is ongoing.
