Three Bay women compete in summer Olympic trials

SARASOTA (FOX 13) - A trio of Bay-Area rowers chased down their Olympic dreams Sunday morning in Sarasota's Nathan Benderson Park.

Tampa's Molly Hamrick and Sarasota's Rosa Kemp and teammate Monica Whitehouse all vied for a spot on the 2016 U.S. Olympic rowing team, which will compete in Rio de Janeiro this summer.

Whitehouse and Kemp, who row for Sarasota Crew, enjoyed a huge hometown crowd as they claimed a bronze medal in the final push of their lightweight women's double sculls race. The third place finish however was not enough to make them Olympians.

Hamrick, along with teammate Keziah Beall, also finished third this morning in the final women's double sculls team trials.

"It wasn't the result we were hoping for but it was a great race and I'm really honored to be here and race these women. So, on to the next one," said Hamrick, who trains in Boston.

All three athletes say they already have their sights set on cracking the 2020 U.S. rowing team roster.
