Authorities are searching for a driver who appears to have caused a deadly motorcycle crash, they said.

The crash occurred before 8:40 p.m. Sunday on Dale Mabry Highway near Idlewild Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol troopers. The driver was heading southbound on Dale Mabry Highway and turned left onto Idlewild Avenue into the path of a motorcycle driven by 49-year-old Michael Tapp.

Troopers said Tapp tried to avoid a crash by hitting the brakes, however, he lost control of the motorcycle and overturned. Tapp and his passenger, 46-year-old Kymberle Meade, were thrown off the vehicle. Both were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where Tapp passed away. Meade had critical injuries.

Troopers said the driver was inside a light-colored, small sedan left the scene. The vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Idlewild Avenue.
