DALLAS -  Police, Saturday, told Fox 4 News that the man who was shot at the Dallas Love Field Airport several times after rushing at an officer with rocks during a domestic disturbance on Friday -- was arrested earlier in the week after another domestic disturbance involving his ex-girlfriend.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said the incident began just after noon Friday when Shawn Diamond, 29, was being dropped off at the airport by his ex-girlfriend.
An arrest report shows Diamond left his job in Maryland and drove to his ex-girlfriend's house in Dallas earlier this week. After she became afraid of Diamond and left her home, the report says he followed her and intentionally steered his vehicle into trees, planted in the center median of Marsh Lane in Carrollton. Diamond was arrested and charged with criminal mischief for the damage to the trees.

When Diamond was released from jail Friday morning, his ex-girlfriend agreed to take him to the airport to fly home. While on the way there, she says Diamond became angry and hit her.
Airport security video shows the ex-girlfriend unloading bags from her car, when Diamond appears to get out and hit the car's windshield several times with a traffic cone he picked up. He then picks up several large rocks and smashes the car windows.

Security video shows Diamond approaching an officer with rocks in his hands. The officer drew his gun and tried to back up while another officer arrived with a taser.
Witnesses say they heard Diamond tell the officer, "you're going to have to shoot me."
At one point, the video shows Diamond make a swift movement and try to circle around the officer. Once Diamond rushed the officer, he is shot to the ground.
After Diamond is shot, he got back up and rushed at the officer again with the rocks, even after the officer told him several times to get down. He is shot several times again.

Jose Mendoza was working at his restaurant in Carrollton Tuesday morning, when he heard tires screeched and a crash in some nearby trees.
Mendoza says when he and others rushed outside they saw Shawn Diamond inside the car. "We saw the car completely flipped, so we ran over there, tried to stop the traffic, and tried to get him out of course."
Mendoza says a woman he now believes to be Diamond's ex-girlfriend was in a car behind Diamond. "She just came out crying. Obviously she was following him or something. She was just freaked out, yelling, 'Oh my God.' Crying, jumping up and down, trying to get somebody to help her.

Diamond was booked at the Denton County jail and charged with Criminal mischief, released on Friday, just hours before he was shot.
He was transported to Parkland hospital where, at last report, he was listed as stable.
Dallas Police have now charged him with Assault, Family Violence and Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant.

The officer who shot Diamond was placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
The Dallas Police Association reported the officer who was involved is in "ok condition." The ex-girlfriend was not hurt during the incident at the airport.
Bryan Armstrong @flashyfilms was just outside the terminal when the gunshots rang out. He posted video online which shows an officer drawing his gun and the sounds of multiple shots fired.

AIRPORT SECURITY

The aviation director says Love Field was able to quickly establish where the shooting happened and contain the situation. Where the airport saw problems was in the panicked after moments the shots were fired, causing unscreened passengers to run past security checkpoints and eventually forced a terminal-wide evacuation.

An estimated 4,000 passengers inside Love Field had to go through security again, even people who were already on planes.

“We had to totally evacuate the terminal and search it before we could begin to rescreen everybody,” said Director of Aviation Mark Duebner. “That was really what impacted the delays that we've seen because we had to get everybody back through screening.”

Closest to the crime scene, half the baggage claim carrousels were off-limits as detectives gathered evidence. But throughout the whole ordeal, the airfield never shut down. Planes were still taking off and landing.

“They just said there was an incident at the airport, a shooting and the airport was on lock-down,” said Darrell Deglandon, who landed at the airport during the incident. “We wouldn't be able to leave the plane until the airport was cleared.”

The delays lead to a ripple effect and caused about 30 cancellations. Southwest Airlines said it was working with air traffic controllers nationwide as it worked to fully restore operations.

“It's the world we live in,” said passenger Kristin Runzheimer. “Others unfortunately have to pay the price for their actions. Nothing we can really do about it but just be patient and get along.”

All the baggage claim carousels reopened late Friday afternoon. By about 4 p.m., the airport TSA lines had returned to normal.

Dallas police released surveillance video of the full incident. (Warning: Some viewers may find the video below disturbing.)
