2 arrested in Tampa after gunshots were fired through neighbor's home with kids inside

Hillsborough County deputies say they have arrested two people after a 911 caller reported hearing gunfire near the 5800 block of Memorial Hwy. in Tampa, early Sunday morning.

When deputies responded, they say they breached the front door to the residence where neighbors say they heard gunshots coming from after nobody answered the door.

One man, two women and two children were found unharmed in the apartment.

While deputies were on scene, a resident nearby reported finding a bullet hole in their window. It was later discovered that the bullet traveled through their living room wall.

One man and a one-year-old child were found uninjured inside.

The two suspects, Faith Thomas, 26, and Donald Roberts, 28, were arrested after deputies learned they were in a domestic violence incident.

Thomas told deputies that he fired the gun off the balcony in an attempt to get Roberts to leave.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister says that using guns is never the answer, especially when it endangers innocent lives.

What they're saying:

"I'm glad our deputies were able to quickly respond and make the necessary arrests," said Chronister. "While domestic violence is never okay, discharging a firearm endangers other innocent lives and is never an acceptable solution."

Charges

  • Thomas was charged with shooting at, within or into a building.
  • Thomas is also charged with discharging a firearm in public or on a residential property.
  • Roberts was charged with battery.

HCSO is investigating the incident.
