88-year-old Florida man accused of killing wife, staging suicide: 'A tragic situation'
NORTH PORT, Fla. - An 88-year-old man is facing a homicide charge after North Port police say he killed his 76-year-old wife, then tried to make it look like she took her own life.

What we know:
According to NPPD, officers responded around 3 a.m. Sunday to a report of a suicide at a home in the 2700 block of Halladay St. and found the body of Miljka Maksic.
Police said that detectives, along with the Medical Examiner's Office, launched an investigation and found that Miljka Maksic's death could not have been self-inflicted.
Officers arrested the victim's husband, Miroslav Maksic, saying he killed his wife and staged the scene before police arrived.

Jail records show Miroslav Maksic is being held without bond in the Sarasota County Jail on one count of homicide.

In a statement released Tuesday, North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison said, "This is a tragic situation, but I’m thankful for the dedicated work of our investigators and the Medical Examiner's office who worked diligently to quickly uncover the truth. Justice for the victim and loved ones is our top priority, and we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions."
