9-year-old invited to cover White House summit
TAMPA (FOX 13) - A 9-year-old Hernando County businesses owner is fulfilling a longtime dream -- traveling to Washington D.C. to take pictures of President Obama.
Madison Harrison received a response from the White House months after creating a hashtag #helpmadisonmeetpotus. The “Photos With Madison” owner received a private direct message inviting her to apply for media credentials for the first United State of Women Summit. The summit is hosted by the White House and takes place this week in the nation’s capital. Speakers include President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, first lady Michelle Obama, and Oprah Winfrey.
Harrison is one of nearly 200 media professionals credentialed for the event. The elementary school student has owned her photography business for almost two years.
The news comes after FOX 13 featured Harrison and her business in a January 2015 segment of “What’s Right with Tampa Bay.” The young photographer said she dreamed of photographing the first family for more than a year. She described the moment her mother shared news of the DC trip.
“It was the last day of school and I was a little sad because I was going to miss my friends and stuff,” Madison said. “When she told me that, I was screaming and that was in the car!”
