Baby orca gets up close and personal with camera at sea

ANTARCTICA (Storyful) - A juvenile orca, also known as a killer whale, got up close and personal with a camera in the Ross Sea, Antarctica.

Antarctic mammal expert Dr. Regina Eisert was standing on the edge of the sea ice collecting biopsy samples from adult orcas when a juvenile approached her.

Footage shared on February 20 shows the baby orca swimming up to Eisert’s “whalfie” stick.

Eisert said the orca “bumped the camera with its nose, opened its mouth and showed me a piece toothfish inside, as though it was trying to get me to take it.” Eisert’s research focuses on the Ross Sea region Marine Protected Area.
