Blind 2 year-old gifted new walker

Two year-old Silus has Norrie Disease, leaving him blind and with low muscle tone.  A regular baby walker was too small for him, so his grandfather went to Home Depot to try to build him one. When employees asked how they could help, they went above and beyond.

Eric Bindel said, “Right there, I have a 2 year-old of my own…I just dove right into it and said, ‘Just drop it right there. Give us the dimensions and we’ll get everything going for you and build it for free.’”

Tool tech Chris Wright started with 1 inch PVC pipe and ran with it. “Four inch casters, I used the foam around the edges to make it soft, rope to secure the seat, reflective tape on it to help it stand out.”

After 2 days- and working on his day off- Chris and these Home Depot dads crafted it and gave it to Silus.

Silus’ mom was so grateful saying, “We need to recognize these gentlemen who put their heart and hard work into making this for our son.”

Wright said “It was just really nice to know that I did this for this child. And he liked it a lot.”

Bindel described the moment Silus got his walker. “He started laughing and then started using his little feet to push himself backwards. I had a big smile. Everybody had a big smile. Maybe a couple little tears here and there.”

Thanks to these guys, Silus is ready to roll.
