Boater's body found after crash along Alafia River

The search for a missing boater came to a sad end this morning.  According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the body of 41-year-old Brent Davis was recovered from the Alafia River just before 9:30.

Officials with FWC say Davis was out boating with Steven Cannon, 33, and Cannon’s 12-year-old son Carson when their boat struck the U.S. 41 bridge around 1:30 a.m.

All three were ejected from the boat, but only the Cannons survived.   The 12-year-old was injured badly enough to be taken to the hospital.

First responders couldn’t immediately find Davis after the accident, so they then launched a multi-agency search from the Williams Park boat ramp.

His body was recovered nearly eight hours after the crash near the U.S. 41 bridge.

Investigators say there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding this case. They’re hoping the two survivors can fill in those blanks.

FWC is reminding boaters to use extreme caution when boating at night and to always wear life vests.
