The demolition of a historic building in downtown St. Petersburg revealed a massive – and daring display by one graffiti vandal.

St. Petersburg police were called into investigate  after crews removed the metal grate of the “cheese grater building” on Central Avenue –behind it a massive, daring graffiti tag.

Rick Shaw, St. Petersburg Police, says this specific tag leads them to believe accused graffiti artist Jared Hernandez is behind this work.

Hernandez plead no contest to several tags back in 2015. Shaw says it’s not likely he’ll be charged for this.

“We don’t have any evidence,” Shaw said.  “We don’t have any video we don’t have any witnesses and the building’s being torn down.”

St. Petersburg police arrested another serial graffiti artist last month, but they don’t believe that case is connected.
