Controlled burns send smoke across Bay Area

Smoke from several controlled burns around Central Florida is causing some concern and even poor visibility in some locations.

The Florida Forest Service is conducting a 1,000-acre prescribed burn at the Citrus Tract of the Withlacoochee Forest in Citrus County. It's blowing smoke south towards the Bay Area, as far as Hillsborough County.

Further east, the Lakeland Fire Department says FFS burns near State Road 33N and in Highland City are sending smoke towards the city.

Drivers and residents around the area as being asked to use caution. Anyone with respiratory issues or sensitivity to smoke should stay inside, officials add.
