A dog running across Interstate 275 helped cause a crash that took the life of a St. Pete Beach woman this morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, it was just before 11 a.m. when Mary Carnes Norloff was headed northbound on I-275.  Near the Fowler Avenue exit, a dog ran into the road, causing Norloff to slam on her brakes.

A tractor-trailer pulling an empty car hauler was northbound behind her, but did not stop in time and slammed into Norloff’s Toyota Echo.  Norloff, 70, was killed in the collision.

The driver of the truck, identified as 43-year-old Kenya Williams of Sanford, was not hurt.  Troopers say charges are pending.

Northbound traffic was blocked immediately after the crash, but all lanes had reopened by mid-afternoon.
