FDOT installs steel gates at Ben T. Davis Beach
TAMPA (FOX 13) - In an effort to eliminate illegal late night racing, The Florida Department of Transportation has installed galvanized steel gates at access points to Ben T. Davis Beach along the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
Tampa Police and Hillsborough County officials requested the gates be installed to help stop people from gathering at those locations late at night and racing along the roadway, which is a continuing safety concern for Tampa's citizens and visitors.
Tampa Police say the gates will be locked between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
