Florida man busted with drugs after crashing vehicle in Sarasota during chase: FHP

A Florida man has been arrested following a high-speed chase and crash in Sarasota around midnight on Wednesday.  

Timeline:

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, troopers said they were helping the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office pursue a reckless driver in a 2016 BMW headed south on I-75. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, as the BMW continued to speed away from law enforcement officers, the driver tried to get off the interstate at the Laurel Road exit.

That’s when troopers say the driver, who has since been identified as Derrick Jerome Truttling, 30, of Fort Myers, crashed into the Laurel Road curbed median. 

After the collision, the BMW became disabled and stopped on the return ramp at I-75, according to FHP.

Truttling was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and having a felony warrant.
