Gap Inc. announced it would close stores two Bay area stores as part of a strategic plan to focus on the best performing locations, according to Sean Piazza with Gap Inc. Corporate Communications.

The closing stores are at Tampa's Westfield Citrus Park and St. Petersburg's Tyrone Square Mall.

One other Florida closure listed is the Gap store in Melbourne. No other Gap locations, including outlets, will be impacted.

On its corporate website, gapinc.com, 69 stores are on the list to close or consolidate January 26, including the two Tampa Bay locations.

It also says a total of 175 stores will close over the next two years.

In a statement to FOX 13, Piazza said, "these changes will help Gap showcase its brand in the most successful locations, and enable the brand to remain focused on offering consistent, on-brand product collections and enhancing the customer experience across all of our channels, including a smaller, more vibrant fleet of stores."
