Goliath grouper takes fisherman overboard
MILTON (FOX 13) - A very lucky fisherman wrestled a 400-lb goliath grouper, but the fish almost managed to reel the fisherman in, instead.
Video posted by Capt. Ben Chancey of Chew on This Fishing and Charters shows fisherman and firefighter, Stephen Rampersad, of Milton, battling the massive catch. Almost right away, Rampersad is pulled overboard, but a fellow fisherman on the boat helps pull him back into the boat.
Rampersad managed to hang on to the fishing rod and pulled the goliath grouper to the edge of the boat.
This catch wasn't about providing dinner for Rampersad's wife, whose birthday happened to be the day of the fishing trip. Goliath grouper are a protected species, so the fish was released.
And the catch didn't come without a cost beyond being pulled into the water. Rampersad lost an expensive pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses during the scuffle with the sea beast. A small price to pay, in our opinion.
