Health department officials said Wednesday several Bay Area beaches were considered a potential risk to the public and may be unsafe for swimming.
Health advisories have been issued for the following beaches: Picnic Island, Cypress Point Park, Bahia, and Ben T. Davis.
Health officials said samples taken this week were above the threshold for enterococci bacteria. Samples will be taken from the beach again on Monday, Aug. 3. The presence of the bacteria could come from storm water runoff, pets, wildlife and human sewage.
