A deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is receiving praise from the community for her selfless act Sunday afternoon.

Sergeant Leonette Garfield was on patrol when she saw a man in need of help. The man was $100 short on rent for the month and living off minimal food in an attempt to make ends meet. In addition, he is also taking care of his two brothers, one of which has autism and can’t work.

Garfield helped the family pay their rent and made sure they had enough groceries for the week.

The sheriff’s office shared the story on social media Sunday afternoon.

“Most folks have no clue how often this happens each day. The compassion we see at the hands of the men and women who wear our badge is quite frankly overwhelming to the most hardcore of hearts.”
