The man who investigators say hit and killed a 20-year-old girl with his truck was sentenced to 10 years in jail Friday.

Sterling Hubbard was sentenced Friday at the Pinellas County Justice Center. He was accused in the death of Emma Keown, who died when Hubbard ran her over as she rode her skateboard on Gulf Boulevard near Madeira Beach in May of 2015.

Her friends saw what happened and told police Hubbard got out of his truck - apparently saw what he had done - then took off. Deputies arrested Hubbard weeks later.

If the case had gone to trial, Hubbard could have received 30 years jail time, if he was convicted. Instead, he pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
