Man struck, killed by Amtrak train while walking across railroad tracks, HCSO investigating

A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Dover on Saturday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

It happened at the intersection of Lindsey St. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. around 4 p.m.

Investigators say the train was traveling eastbound when the victim, 53-year-old Andres Pop-Tupil, was walking across the railroad tracks when he was struck.

Pop-Tupil, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to first responders.

Sheriff Chad Chronister is reminding people to be extra cautious around railroad tracks.

"My heart goes out to the family and friends who lost their loved one," said Chronister. "This tragic accident reminds us all to be overly cautious around railroad tracks."

CSX Police and Amtrak investigators also responded to the scene.

HCSO is investigating the crash.
