Man in Bolts jersey seen stealing Lightning chair from porch
LITHIA (FOX 13) - They were the best seats in the house, but surveillance cameras caught a suspected thief taking one of two custom Bolts lawn chairs from Shane Newberg's front porch.
He hopes someone recognizes the lightning fan who took off with the chairs Newberg made for his wife for Mother's Day in 2015.
"I ordered the kit, put the kit together, then created the stencil, and then painted the logo on both the chairs, and they turned out great," Newberg said Wednesday.
This year, he tried to one-up Mom's Day for his Lightning-loving wife with two tickets to game give against the Islanders. Then, in the early-morning hours after Mother's Day, a jolt of a different kind hit their home. Someone stole one of the chairs right off their front porch after the Lightning's big win.
Newberg said it wasn't just a theft, it was a betrayal.
"We realized it later, looked at the security footage, and said, 'wow. I can't believe someone in a Stamkos Lightning jersey came up to the house and stole a chair!" Newberg said.
Crystal clear surveillance video caught the badly-behaved Bolts fan in the act.
"He looks at the video camera, realizes it's there, and then tries to hide his face with the jersey," Newberg said.
The missing chair isn't the couple's first run-in with a Lightning-crazed thief. Someone else swiped their Bolts flag, hanging proudly from their home. Since uploading the video Monday, Newberg said he's received overwhelming support by fellow fans looking to weed out one bad seed.
"My realization is that the Lightning community has come together and has redistributed the video thousands and thousands of times. It's the Lightning community that's going to solve this case," Newberg said.
If you have any information about the crime, you're asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
