Memorial ride held for tow truck driver killed in hit-and-run
TAMPA (FOX13) - Dozens of tow truck drivers held a memorial ride Sunday for a fellow driver who was hit and killed in a crash on Feb. 15.
Roger Perez Borrotto was fatally struck while helping another driver on the Howard Frankland Bridge. The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver who hit him, Allison Huffman, fled the scene and abandoned her car at a Tampa hotel.
On Sunday around noon, tow truck drivers led the "Ride for Roger," starting on the St. Petersburg side of the bridge. They drove north across the bridge, passing the location where Borrotto was killed, then onto the Veteran’s Expressway. The group finished their ride at Borrotto’s home off Waters Avenue.
Huffman, who was later found at a friend's apartment in St. Petersburg, is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail on a $375,000 bond.
