Mother talks about daycare child abuse arrest
FOX 13's Jordan Bowen speaks with a Bay Area mother who was overcome with anger last month when her 3-year-old son came home from daycare with multiple lacerations to his face and neck. Deputies are now charging the worker, 26-year-old Denario Powell, with child abuse causing injuries.
TAMPA, Fla. - A Tampa Bay area mother said she was overcome with anger last month when her 3-year-old son came home from daycare with multiple lacerations to his face and neck. Deputies are now charging the daycare worker accused of causing the injuries with child abuse.
Surveillance video from Panda Hugs Academy shows the worker, 26-year-old Denario Powell, removing Wilson's 3-year-old son from a chair and taking him to the bathroom on December 30. Witnesses then described hearing yelling, loud banging and the boy crying.
What they're saying:
"To hear my baby scream and me not be there to protect him. That's a problem for me," said Mikayla Wilson, the 3-year-old's mother. "I don't care what he did. It shouldn't have never went to that extent, for you to use force, because that's exactly what you did."

Wilson said her dad, who picked him up from daycare, first noticed the injuries.
"I seen my baby with scratches and lacerations on his face and a laceration to his neck," Wilson said.
She said she immediately called the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and showed up with deputies at the daycare the next day. On Monday, Powell was arrested for child abuse.

What we know:
Deputies said the boy had "multiple lacerations and abrasions to the face and neck." They went on to say that after the incident the boy went up to a witness, touched his neck and then pointed at Powell.
"I'm proud of him for speaking up. Most 3-year-olds don't do that, and I'm proud of him for staying consistent in what he said," Wilson said.
