A man from Tampa, Florida was trying to help a woman who was being assaulted but was shot instead, according to police.

The Tampa Police Department is now looking for the trigger man, as well as the woman who was with him.

The terrifying confrontation happened around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

"He's in a lot of pain. He still has to get the bullet removed,” Jennifer Damon said.

Her husband, Jason was shot in the left shoulder.

"If you look at the video, he was trying to shoot him in the head, he was trying to kill my husband," she said.

Tampa police released surveillance video from outside the 7-Eleven store at the corner of Dale Mabry Highway and Spruce Street.

Jason was walking home when he reportedly saw an assault happening inside a red pickup parked in the lot.

"Their passenger side door was open and there was this guy beating the crap out of this lady,” said Jennifer. “So he went up a little ways and was about to call the cops, and the guy saw him and said, 'You need to mind your own business.'"

Investigators say the man tried to fight Jason and, after getting punched, went back to his truck and grabbed a handgun.

"He sees the guy coming at him loading the gun, like putting the bullets in, putting the clip in loading the gun, coming at him," Jennifer said.

He shot Jason once. Then, as he backed up, the woman walked over.

Police say they want to know who she is.

"We're just concerned about her safety and want to make sure she's found, she's safe, and he's put behind bars," Tampa police spokesperson Eddy Durkin said.

A bystander shot video of the newer model Ford pickup driving away. If you look closely, you can see it appears the license plate has been covered with something blue.

Jennifer and Jason say they just want the man to be held accountable and off the streets.

"We’re hoping and praying that they find the guy so he can get brought to justice," Jennifer said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male around 5 feet 8 inches tall. Anyone who knows the identity of him or the woman in the video is asked to call Tampa police.
