Polk K-9s are nation's top dogs

Officers in Polk County have some serious bragging rights.  The Lakeland and Lake Wales K-9 teams finished in first and second place in a national competition, respectively.

The United States Police Canine Association Patrol Dog national field trial was held in Springfield, Illinois last month.

Lakeland officer Chad Whitaker and his K-9 partner "Nox" won the trial by scoring an unprecedented 696.51 points out of a possible 700, making Chad and Nox's scores some of the highest on record, according to LPD.

Lake Wales officer Chad Landry and his K-9 "Badge" finished the competition with a total score of 687.34 out of the allotted 700 points, good enough for second place.
