Red tide expected to move south

It kills thousands of fish, creating a smell that keeps tourists away.   The toxic algae bloom known as red tide continues to threaten Bay Area beaches.

The latest report from Florida Fish and Wildlife shows the area affected the most is Manatee and Sarasota counties.

In Pinellas County, St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island felt it the worst early last week.  The latest report shows the concentration of algae has subsided significantly as the algae bloom moves south.

The problem still exists in the Bay Area, with large fish kills reported east of the Sunshine Skyway  Bridge. 

Red tide is toxic to wildlife and is not good for people with respiratory problems.
