Remembering, honoring and teaching

On Saturday, people all around the country honored our service men and women for Wreaths Across America. Here, in Tampa the American Legion Post 5 had 750 large green wreaths with red bows laid down to carry on the annual event’s mission. That mission is to “Remember, honor and teach.”

Across all 50 states there were more than a thousand ceremonies just like this and each wreath was sponsored by a person or a business for $15. Organizers say, the wreaths not only honor the veterans, but they are a gift to the families as well. Today’s event in Tampa also honored William “Wild Bill” Monfort, a 100-year-old Pearl Harbor World War II veteran.
