Search for next superintendent: Hillsborough school officials want parents' input
TAMPA, Fla. - A few months after the superintendent of Hillsborough County announced his upcoming retirement, officials are giving parents a chance to weigh in on the future of the school district.
In June, Jeff Eakins delivered the news, saying his decision to retire is what is best for his family. He led Hillsborough County public schools for the last four years. The county is the eighth-largest district in the country.
Hillsborough County school officials will host the first of four forums in which parents can attend as the district begins its search for the next superintendent. Because Eakins announced his plan to retire, the county has a year to find his replacement.
School district officials want to know the types of leadership qualities, expertise and experiences matter most to parents. Since the start of the summer, parents have had the ability to voice their opinions by filling out an online survey. That survey will be online until Sunday morning.
Parents can also voice their opinions in-person by attending a community forum. Four will be held this week:
