St. Pete police interview man who allegedly threatened shooting during Pride

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - St. Pete police are investigating a threat made to people going to the largest gay pride celebration in the state.

Thursday morning, the city's mayor kicked off the St. Pete Pride, raising the rainbow flag over City Hall. Some in the crowd, however, had concerns over security.

Ryan Menke saw a post on social media allegedly threatening a shooting. With more than 200,000 people preparing to line the streets for Saturday evening’s parade, Menke said he knew he had to call the police.

“I lost two friends at Pulse and that was devastating because no one could make sense of it," Menke said.

St. Petersburg Police Department’s Chief Anthony Holloway says this is a great example of seeing something and saying something.

“We went out and interviewed the subject and we are still monitoring him because we take all threats seriously,” Chief Holloway said.

Chief Holloway says they have every angle of security covered, on the ground, in a command center, and officers who, a lot of times, won't be visible.
