Storms blow through Bay Area

DADE CITY (FOX 13) - Two rounds of storms moved through the Bay Area over the last day, bringing heavy rain, damaging winds, and some dramatic clouds.

It was hard to miss the ominous shelf cloud that accompanied this afternoon's round of storms. FOX 13 received hundreds of viewer photos showing the dark line cutting across the sky as the line moved from the Gulf of Mexico to the eastern parts of Polk County.

The afternoon storms were not as damaging as the line that moved through earlier.  Emergency crews in Pasco County spent the morning going door to door to check on residents after dozens of mobile homes were damaged during last night's storms.

Officials say more than 60 homes in the Country Aire Estates community -- that's off McDonald Road, south of Dade City -- suffered some type of damage due to straight-line winds that measured as high as 60 mph.

The winds blew through around 12:30 a.m., along with lightning and heavy rains.

"Just like they always say, it was just like a train.  You can hear it coming, but when you hear it, it's too late to do anything," offered Andy Willis, who lost part of his roof. "Just like a storm driving a train right up to your door."

Four homes suffered "major damage," officials stated, with one home considered completely destroyed.

Vehicles, golf carts, and even some trees also suffered damage around the community.

Fortunately, officials say no one was hurt.
