A package deemed suspicious at Carver Exceptional School turned out to be a plastic bag filled with small anti-theft devices, according to Tampa police.

Before 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Tampa police had a trail yellow crime scene tape surrounding the school, and along Hillsborough Avenue as the shut down the roads for nearly two hours and evacuated the school.

Both directions between North 34th Street and North 22nd Street were closed, as they investigated the package on school property, just outside of the building. A bomb squad robot was deployed and examined the contents, and found the contents inside the white plastic bag to be anti-theft devices, and harmless, police said.

As a precaution, Carver Exceptional School, 2934 East Hillsborough Avenue, was evacuated. A small number of people were at the school at the time of the evacuation. About 50 students attend, and most are bus riders. The school buses were rerouted to Middleton High School.
