No injuries after Tampa home on Sligh Avenue heavily damaged by fire

A home in Tampa appears to be a total loss after a Monday morning fire.

Tampa Fire Rescue said firefighters responded to the scene in the 1400 block of W. Sligh Avenue in the Lowry Park area around 9:30 a.m.

When they arrived, firefighters said the single-story home had heavy smoke coming from the roof and eaves.

"With zero visibility inside the home, our firefighters made a defensive attack on the fire," the agency said.

Flames could be seen engulfing the building. The blaze was brought under control within two hours.

Tampa Fire Rescue said the residents were not home at the time, and no one was injured in the fire.

Traffic in the area was shut down while firefighters battled the flames. The cause remains under investigation.
