Thief ransacked moving truck of terminally ill Brooksville man

BROOKSVILLE (FOX 13) - A man battling terminal cancer is searching for a life's worth of possessions that were stolen out of a UHaul this week.

Facing his final days, Vinton Holley and his wife decided to move from West Virginia to Dade City to be closer to their daughters. They packed everything they owned, including family heirlooms and priceless memories, into a moving truck and made their way to Florida.

Shortly after their arrival, however, someone broke into the locked truck and stole several items. But to Holley, they were more than material things.

Among the stolen items were heirlooms he planned to pass along to his daughters and grandchildren. A coin collection, a gold, vintage vest watch, and a gun Holley got when he was 16-years-old were taken from the truck.

"It was just something that was something simple that was for the kids," Vinton's wife, Eloise said.

Holley hopes the person who took his most sentimental things will find a way to return them. 

But during his final days he's choosing to focus on spending time with his family.

"My guns, my coins, her clothes, my clothes," said Vinton Holley. "It means nothing."
