Winn-Dixie parent to close 94 stores, including 10 in Bay Area

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Ten Winn-Dixie stores in the Bay Area will be closing as the grocer’s parent company continues its struggle to survive.
Anthony Hucker, the president and chief executive officer of Southeastern Grocers, announced Thursday that the company would be closing 94 “underperforming” stores throughout the U.S., including several in the Bay Area.
Winn-Dixie has struggled in recent years, with the chain previously filing for bankruptcy in 2005 and 2009, FOX Business reports.
“Taking this step was critical to our future and the long-term health of our business,” Hucker insisted.
The Bay Area closings include:
- West Bradenton: 3500 53rd Ave.
- Land O’ Lakes: 2126 Collier Parkway
- St. Petersburg: 7625 Blind Pass Road
- Sarasota: 3301 17th Street
- Sarasota: 1325 S. Tamiami Trail
- Sarasota: 2881 Clark Road
- Apollo Beach: 6180 US Highway 41 N
- Tampa: 2525 E. Hillsborough Avenue
- Tampa: 2525 N. Dale Mabry Hwy.
- Tampa: Gandy Blvd.
Meanwhile, Hucker said, the company would focus on remodeling many of the remaining 582 stores.
"This course of action enables us to continue writing the story for our company and our iconic, heritage banners in the Southeast,” he added.
