With forecasters expecting the Tampa Bay area to see one of its coldest Christmas Days on record, counties across central Florida are opening cold weather shelters for anyone needing a warm place to stay over the holiday weekend.

All but one of the 50 states have documented a temperature below zero, with Hawaii being the sole outlier. Yes, even Florida has reached negative temperatures. In the Lower 48, Montana holds the all-time record at minus 70 degrees.

With freeze watches issued for most of the Tampa Bay area, strawberry farmers are doing what they can to protect their livelihood.

Storms around the country are already hammering travelers at Tampa International Airport. From Atlanta to Washington, holiday travelers are facing a wall of cancelations and delays with snow stopping many planes in their tracks. 

Counties across the Tampa Bay area are expected to activate emergency cold weather shelters Friday, with temperatures expected to drop into the 30s throughout the region.

For much of the Sunshine State, it will likely be one of the coldest Christmas Days on record, with low temperatures expected to be in the 30s across northern and central Florida on Sunday morning.

Florida may be known as the Sunshine State, but despite its lack of winter weather, several of the state's airports rank ahead of many other cities when it comes to delays and cancellations.

Roughly 3,000 flights across the U.S. have been canceled due to severe weather. On Friday morning, nearly three dozen of those occurred at Tampa International Airport.

The Utah couple was heading to the hospital in a snowstorm after Katie went into labor, but just ten minutes into their drive, "she felt that baby was coming" and said it was time to pull over. Her husband, Cade, a four-year medical student helped deliver his daughter, Kennedy.
